Mirissa Hills Accommodation & Facilities

Mirissa Hills Accommodation

3 sets of accommodation units are available within the estate at Mirissa Hills providing guests a relaxing and pampered stay. Each property can be rented separately, or, for large groups, can be rented together or in combination.

The Bungalow - At the base of the hill is the immaculately restored old estate house, or Walauwa at Mirissa Hills. Set amidst a well-kept lawn and indigenous trees, The Bungalow is a true retreat in the countryside. Built in the early part of the last century, this property has been tastefully furnished blending old traditions with the modern and decorated with contemporary artwork.

Offering country living at its best, the sitting room is light and airy, opening onto a dining area that consists of a single plank wooden table while the breakfast area adjoins the kitchen. There are three bedrooms all for double occupancy and one with a double bed. Each has en-suite showers with hot and cold running water and toilets, and is equipped with mosquito nets and fans.

The Museum - Half-way up the hill is the Cinnamon Museum and Visitors’ Centre, which has four charming rooms allowing guests literally to live within the world’s only museum dedicated to the history and uses of cinnamon. Set in the center of the plantation within a secluded courtyard, the property consists of four air-conditioned bedrooms catering for two guests each. Furnished in a classic style with cheerful and contemporary fabrics, the rooms include bathrooms that are en-suite. At night the court yard is transformed into a dining area with a bar at one end. The museum occupies a space on the upper floor of the building.

Mount Cinnamon - At the top, with extensive views of the surrounding Weligama Bay and Denipitiya Hills is Mount Cinnamon which is a luxurious contemporary house dramatically set, signifying the very best of Sri Lankan art and design. Elegantly designed for the tropical climate, the house has three double bedrooms and one single bedroom.

All bedrooms are air-conditioned and include fans. The beds are draped with specially woven cinnamon fabric while each room has an en-suite shower and toilet. Other facilities include 3 sitting areas along the sea facing terrace, an informal area for pre-dinner drinks, a comfortable drawing room and a dining room divided by a sculpted screen, breakfast terrace, an extra kitchen and a swimming pool within the courtyard.

Mirissa Hills Facilities

Mirissa Hills prides itself for excellent cuisine since most of the ingredients are locally sourced. Fresh fish is bought from the Weligama Bay while the fruits and vegetables are grown on the plantation. A choice of Western and Sri Lankan breakfast is served along with a fresh platter of fruit and juice. Sri Lankan Rice and Curry is served for lunch while afternoon tea is served upon request.

If you want to enjoy a round of drinks, fine wines and short eats are provided. Dinner can be Sri Lankan or Western or a mix of both cuisines. You can enjoy crab and lobster which should be ordered the previous night. Vegetarians are also catered for while there is a microwave available for preparing baby food.

A unique aspect of Mirissa Hills is the fine collection of Sri Lankan art that is found integrated in to the design of the houses. From the enchanted forest screen at Mount Cinnamon to the Phoenix sculpture in the museum and the Cinnamon Diptych for the bar are notable art works. Mirissa Hills is also a perfect destination for romantic weddings while the sun sets over the south coast. The hotel is well experienced in making all the necessary arrangements from booking a photographer, ordering the cake and organizing the registrar.
